Tennessee Sex Offenders List
Public access to information about sex offenders in the United States is the result of (1) the Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act, (2) the Pam Lychner Sexual Offender Tracking and Identification Act and (3) Megan's Law, which require states - like Tennessee - to release relevant information about registered sex offenders to protect the public.
Each state differs in terms of how it administers its community notification process. The Tennessee sex offenders list IS accessible on-line via the following link:
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Sexual Offender Registry
Tennessee Sex Offenders List Excerpt: "Tennessee Code Annotated section 40-39-106 makes some Tennessee Sexual Offender Registry information about sex offenders who committed certain enumerated offenses on or after July 1, 1997, public record, and requires that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation post the information on the TBI's internet home page. The names of sexual offenders who committed sexual offenses before July 1, 1997, are confidential, and subject to release only if the specific sex offender is deemed to pose a threat to the community. It is the policy of the TBI that local law enforcement is best suited to make the determination as to who poses a threat in their community. Therefore, for the names of offenders on the Sexual Offender Registry prior to July 1, 1997, you should contact your local law enforcement agency."
